The Los Angeles Dodgers will doubtless hold a whole lot of their roster intact this offseason.
The one participant who has been floated time and again in commerce rumors already, although, is Teoscar Hernandez.
The best-handed slugger has been a key piece for L.A. lately however seems to be on the decline.
He’s nonetheless received sufficient thump in his bat to enchantment to different groups, although, and the Dodgers have a pair causes that buying and selling Hernandez may make sense.
A kind of causes is Shohei Ohtani.
Shohei Ohtani Cause for Buying and selling Teoscar Hernandez
Many sluggers are capable of age gracefully into the again phases of their profession and turn into a chosen hitter.
That’s not attainable with the Dodgers, as a result of they’ve Ohtani.
Ohtani goes to be the Dodgers’ DH for so long as he’s in L.A.
That implies that Hernandez may by no means be a full-time DH for the Dodgers.
“The postseason demonstrated that the Dodgers have to start out eager about reshaping their place participant group, to get youthful and extra athletic,” ESPN’s Buster Olney wrote on Monday in a brand new article. “However that might be difficult, with so a lot of their veterans underneath contract. The obvious commerce candidate of their place participant group is Teoscar Hernandez, as a result of as he will get older and his defensive abilities naturally decline, there isn’t a out for him on the DH spot, with the presence of Shohei Ohtani.”
Clearly, the Dodgers aren’t complaining about having Ohtani occupy the DH spot. It simply creates the conundrum, whether or not now or later, of what to do with Hernandez — who isn’t going to be getting any higher in left subject.
Dodgers Youth
The Dodgers additionally do an ideal job of manufacturing promising prospects, however they don’t at all times get to play due to the veterans forward of them.
Transferring Hernandez would additionally create some house for an infusion of youth in L.A.
ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez wrote this in the identical article talked about above:
“Their complete beginning lineup is underneath contract. And although their entrance workplace will spend a whole lot of time debating the deserves of a youthful position-player group, which may in the end occur internally — with the likes of Josue De Paula, Alex Freeland and, when he recovers from elbow surgical procedure, Dalton Dashing mixing in. Might a blockbuster deal for a younger, controllable, upper-echelon place participant materialize? Actually. However these are at all times troublesome.”
He’s questioning if the Dodgers may use their youth to commerce for pitching.
But when they commerce Hernandez as an alternative, then that youth may merely issue into the motion on the sphere in Dodgers blue within the years forward.
