The Los Angeles Dodgers got here up quick this season.
After back-to-back World Collection championships, they had been swept out of the NLCS by the Milwaukee Brewers, with their season ending on Thursday. And whereas many gamers will likely be again, some change might be coming.
Teoscar Hernandez might be part of that change.
If the Dodgers need, they’ll look to commerce Hernandez this offseason.
Teoscar Hernandez Commerce Candidate
The Athletic’s Katie Woo and Fabian Ardaya famous in a brand new article on Saturday that Hernandez is essentially the most logical massive identify for the Dodgers to commerce this offseason.
“After rostering the oldest position-playing group within the majors for the second straight yr, the Dodgers will look to get youthful,” The Athletic writes. “The problem is that almost all of their age-30-or-above core remains to be beneath contract for 2027, if not longer. The Dodgers floated Hernández on the commerce market final winter however held on. As a substitute, they moved him to left subject to make room for Kyle Tucker. They may discover themselves in the same place this offseason. Los Angeles will look to create a spot on the energetic roster for high prospect Josue De Paula, who nonetheless wants loads of work within the outfield however impressed Dodgers brass along with his offense to the purpose the place the 21-year-old made each the NLDS and NLCS rosters.”
Hernandez is coming into the ultimate yr of his contract, however he does have a membership possibility in his deal for 2028, as nicely.
“Offloading Hernández is likely to be the best manner to try this,” The Athletic writes. “Hernández is within the closing yr of a three-year, $66 million extension he signed forward of the 2025 season. The deal features a membership possibility value $15 million in 2028. He didn’t have a lot of a market final winter, and his 16 homers this yr characterize his lowest whole in a full season of his profession. Nonetheless, the Dodgers have a loaded farm system that might maybe assist sweeten a possible commerce.”
Would One other Crew Need Teoscar Hernandez?
The truth that Hernandez is coming into the ultimate yr of his deal helps the trigger. It received’t price a ton to get him, and it’s not a long-term dedication.
On the flip aspect, although, he’s coming off a decline in dwelling runs, and he’s not a helpful defender at this level.
So it might line up greatest if there was a contender with a gap in left subject or at DH that had a surplus some place else to ship the Dodgers for Hernandez.
The Dodgers are slated to lose pitching greater than the rest this offseason, so possibly some form of arm to deal for Hernandez would line up for L.A. and one other workforce to get a commerce executed.
