Whether or not it’s a coincidence or solely related is one thing that wouldn’t be easy to determine.
However what’s clear is that final 12 months, Bo Bichette had surgical procedure, and this 12 months, Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. adopted go well with with the identical process.
Information emerged on Friday that Guerrero had undergone laser eye surgical procedure, which comes nearly a 12 months after the information that Bichette had accomplished the identical factor.
How Bo Bichette’s Eye Surgical procedure Labored Out
If we wish to begin to speculate on how Guerrero’s surgical procedure would possibly assist him, possibly it’s value looking at what Bichette did this season together with his upgraded eyes.
Bichette in fact was in his first season away from Toronto. He signed a three-year, $126 million contract to hitch the New York Mets — a contract that’s really constructed as three one-year offers for $42 million apiece with opt-outs in between.
The confirmed hitter Bichette received off to a brutal begin to the season, and his last stats replicate a participant who by no means actually might dig completely out of the funk.
He batted .260 with a .702 OPS that included 25 doubles, two triples, 18 residence runs and 78 RBI.
In 2025, Bichette hit .311 with an .840 OPS.
Hitting is tough, although, and so it probably depends upon far more than simply the offseason eye surgical procedure to determine what Bichette benefited from or not.
It’s actually ironic that Bichette by some means set the tone for this surgical procedure earlier than Vladdy did the identical factor.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Room for Enchancment
Blue Jays followers will likely be nicely conscious that Vladdy has loads of room for enchancment after a tough 2026 season wherein his energy just about disappeared solely.
Guerrero had career-lows in batting common (.260) and OPS (.688).
He hit simply 9 residence runs in 144 video games, together with only one homer all the 12 months on the residence stadium at Rogers Centre.
Guerrero is simply 27 years outdated, so it’s exhausting to imagine that he has rapidly declined solely.
The attention surgical procedure can also be a little bit of a thriller simply so far as understanding how his eyesight was beforehand. Perhaps Guerrero wanted the surgical procedure greater than Bichette and thus will profit extra, or possibly there will likely be no correlation in any respect.
There are such a lot of variables that go into hitting a baseball nicely, and people variables didn’t work in Vladdy’s favor in any respect this season.
He’s nonetheless received greater than a decade to go on his $500 million contract with the Blue Jays, so Toronto will definitely be hoping that no matter the actual purpose, Guerrero turns round his efficiency on the plate in 2027 and past.
