The Chicago Cubs‘ 2026 MLB season ended within the Wild Card Sequence, the place they misplaced to the San Diego Padres in two video games. With the offseason underway, the Cubs’ entrance workplace faces main choices on pending free brokers.
One pending free agent hitting the open market this offseason is veteran outfielder Seiya Suzuki. Furthermore, in a not-so-deep free agent class, Suzuki is without doubt one of the high free brokers, which is why his time in Chicago could possibly be coming to an finish if the Cubs don’t need to overpay.
This season, Suzuki hit .270 with 147 hits, 26 homers, 86 RBIs, and 96 runs scored in 143 video games, per StatMuse. Since coming to Chicago in 2022, he has hit .269 with 683 hits, 113 house runs, 382 RBIs, and 374 runs scored in 675 video games, per StatMuse.
In consequence, the 32-year-old is a constant, dependable right-handed bat for any staff trying to bolster its lineup. Zion Trammel of Toronto Blue Jays on SI believes the staff north of the border must make Suzuki its precedence this offseason as he fills an enormous weak spot.
“Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki suits two wants: an outfield bat and somebody who mashes lefties,” Trammel wrote in an Oct. 3 article. “Final season, Toronto struggled in opposition to left-handed pitching. The Blue Jays couldn’t deal with lefties, however Suzuki can.
“In 2026, the 32-year-old slashed .309/.429/.537 with 42 hits, eight house runs, and 23 RBIs. He’s an immediate repair to a number of points that Toronto confronted this 12 months.”
Seiya Suzuki Would Give Blue Jays Offensive Increase
If the Blue Jays do outbid different groups and land Suzuki, they’d have an offensive core that options him, Kazuma Okamoto, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Alejandro Kirk, which could possibly be a gaggle that, if wholesome, can get Toronto again to the postseason after lacking the playoffs this season.
“Suzuki is an apparent pairing with Toronto,” Trammel added in his article. “He’s spent all 5 seasons with the Cubs, however he’ll seemingly search a profitable deal that the Blue Jays can hopefully supply.
“He’s hit 20+ house runs 4 consecutive years and might get on base persistently. Suzuki posted excessive strikeout numbers final season, however most energy hitters wrestle with swing-and-miss.”
Seiya Suzuki Predicted to Go away Cubs in Free Company
If there’s any hope for Blue Jays followers that Suzuki will depart the Cubs, Zachary Rotman of FanSided believes the veteran’s time in Chicago is over and he’ll depart as a free agent.
“Seiya Suzuki signed a five-year take care of the Cubs forward of the 2022 season, and it’s secure to say he lived as much as it,” Rotman wrote in an Oct. 1 article. “He averaged 22 house runs, 73 RBI, and an .823 OPS over that span, proving to be a rock-solid middle-of-the-order hitter for Chicago. He’s a participant the Cubs ought to have an curiosity in re-signing, however will that really occur?
“Not solely is Suzuki already 32 years previous, however he’s top-of-the-line place gamers in a remarkably weak free company class. This can seemingly lead to him receiving a contract that’s longer and costlier than the Cubs will or ought to need to give him. They most likely received’t hold each Suzuki and Ian Happ, and whereas Suzuki is the higher participant, Happ ought to come cheaper, which is music to Tom Ricketts’ ears.”
