The New York Mets made the 2024 MLB postseason after finishing with a record of 89-73.
Squeezing into the playoffs as a wild card, the Mets knocked off the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies before falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.
Since then, the Mets have made some notable improvements to their roster, highlighted by the addition of superstar outfielder Juan Soto coming over from the New York Yankees.
One question mark that remains is free agent Pete Alonso, who has yet to sign for the 2025 season, and MLB analyst Robert Murray revealed what he’s hearing about the first baseman and the Mets.
“I think we’re at a pretty sizeable gap at this point,” Murray said, via Foul Territory.

Murray mentions the difference in money, saying that Alonso wants a sizeable amount more than the Mets are currently willing to offer.
Another point Murray touches on is that if the Mets don’t bring back Alonso quickly, another team such as the Seattle Mariners could swoop in and steal him.
Alonso has played all six seasons of his MLB career for New York.
The right-handed power hitter has become a fan favorite, and it would likely upset many if he doesn’t return.
It will be interesting to see if Alonso ends up taking less money than he wants to stay with the team or if he gets a more lucrative offer elsewhere.
