The Milwaukee Brewers are World Sequence champs, however that received’t change their strategy to the offseason.
This can be a small-market workforce that is aware of its place within the MLB ecosystem and is aware of precisely what sorts of strikes it must make to outlive and proceed to thrive.
That has led to some surprising rumors within the early going of the offseason. William Contreras, the World Sequence MVP, is already floating as a commerce candidate.
It seems it might be a bit untimely on that entrance, however there are offers that Milwaukee might take into account with a few of its heroic World Sequence stars, even when they don’t contain Contreras.
In a brand new article on Monday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan broke down briefly a couple of of the Brewers’ totally different commerce concerns.
Brewers Make William Contreras Commerce Determination
Primarily based on Passan’s reporting, Brewers followers can exhale.
It doesn’t sound like Contreras might be traded anytime quickly.
“William Contreras isn’t going anyplace though he’s nearing free company,” Passan writes.
The implication there’s that the Brewers wouldn’t commerce away such a cornerstone even when there was some monetary logic to it.
Passan doesn’t say it, however there is also the undertones of a attainable extension on the best way.
Gamers like Contreras don’t at all times stay with their small-market membership, however some prioritize that continuity with group — Jose Ramirez has twice taken below-market-value extensions to remain in Cleveland, for instance.
The Brewers definitely owe it to themselves to see if they’ll preserve Contreras round. He’s too essential to all the pieces they do to only discard him haphazardly.
Brewers Commerce Rumors: Trevor Megill
Passan does notice that the Brewers would possibly commerce nearer Trevor Megill, who received the ultimate outs of the World Sequence.
“The World Sequence champion Brewers will no less than hear on nearer Trevor Megill,” Passan writes.
Megill can be a way more on-brand commerce for the Brewers to make.
The 6-foot-8 nearer might be within the ultimate yr of his contract in 2027, that means he’ll be a free agent on the finish of the yr.
Reduction pitchers are famously risky to start with, and so they’re additionally considerably extra replaceable than different positions — definitely extra so than a star catcher.
The Brewers may get stable worth for Megill in the event that they commerce him to a different workforce with a full yr to make use of him.
Milwaukee doubtless wouldn’t promote low, as a result of Megill would clearly nonetheless be fairly helpful to them. However apparently his title goes to drift by way of some rumors this offseason, no less than across the complicating issue of a lockout.
