When CBO Craig Breslow fired supervisor Alex Cora and several other members of the teaching employees, hitting coach Pete Fatse was excessive on the record of coaches who the Boston Pink Sox have been prepared to maneuver on from. Now, he has a brand new workforce.
Fatse is about to grow to be the hitting coach for the Philadelphia Phillies. Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic first reported the information. Fatse had been working as a hitting guide for the Tampa Bay Rays because the Pink Sox moved on from him.
The Phillies are coming off a significant disappointment of a season. The hitting was a significant purpose for that letdown of a season in Philadelphia, significantly their lack of energy hitting right-handed bats. So, they moved on from Kevin Lengthy.
A local of Hampden, Massachusetts, Fatse performed at UConn earlier than changing into a Twenty fourth-round choose in 2009. He would spend two seasons within the Milwaukee Brewers minor league system.
Fatse based Superior Efficiency Academy in Palmer, Massachusetts. Then, in 2019, the Minnesota Twins made him their minor league hitting coordinator. Following the 2019 season, he joined the Pink Sox as an assistant hitting coach, and after the season he turned the workforce’s hitting coach.
Fatse could be criticized throughout his time with the Pink Sox for his or her poor strikeout fee and poor stroll share, although the workforce was among the many greatest in MLB in batting common and slugging share. Nevertheless, the workforce bottomed out offensively at the beginning of the 2026 season.
Pete Fatse Received’t Reunite With Former Boston Pink Sox Supervisor Alex Cora
The Pete Fatse rent is an attention-grabbing one for the Phillies. They’d twice provided former Pink Sox supervisor Alex Cora, who had an excellent relationship with Fatse, the job there. He turned them down twice, although.
Had Cora taken the job, Fatse to the Phillies would have been a no brainer. That wasn’t the case, although, and Fatse lacks the identical connection to President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski that Cora has. Dombrowski was out of Boston proper across the time that Fatse joined on, that means they didn’t have that prolonged connection. On the identical time, Dombrowski trusts Cora and Cora clearly trusts Fatse.
The Phillies ended up selling interim supervisor Don Mattingly to the full-time job. He’s now counting on Fatse to supply an influence surge for the Phillies.
Apparently, this transfer does reunite Fatse with one of many Phillies’ greatest gamers. Kyle Schwarber briefly labored with Fatse for 41 common season and 11 playoff video games with the Pink Sox. That was again in 2021. In that point, Schwarber was .291 with a .957 OPS within the common season and .205 with a .718 OPS within the postseason, although he did have 3 house runs in that point.
Alex Cora Blamed Pitching for Pink Sox Firing
In some post-mortems on the Alex Cora period with the Pink Sox, he was criticized for being too loyal to Pete Fatse. On the very least, it turned clear that there have been contradictory philosophies relating to hitting inside the group.
That’s why some people raised an eyebrow at feedback Cora not too long ago made on Baseball Isn’t Boring. There, he argued that difficulty had extra to do with pitching, the place Breslow loyalist Andrew Bailey was not among the many fired coaches.
“Truthfully, I really feel like I bought fired as a result of we didn’t pitch within the month of April,” Cora stated. “So simple as that.”
Cora clearly wasn’t going in charge Fatse and the offense, though they struggled, for the dangerous begin in April. So, for no matter it’s price, Fatse does come together with his seal of approval.
